Dance studio plan is announced for former Chinese restaurant in Ayr
According to the applicant the proposal seeks a change of use for 38 North Harbour Street, Ayr, from a restaurant (Class 3) to a dance studio (Class 11).
A former Chinese restaurant in Ayr could make way for a new dance studio venture.
The now vacant Moon Star restaurant, in the town’s North Harbour Street, is being earmarked for the business venture.
The applicant in the proposals is Lisa Muir, of LJM Dance.
According to the applicant the proposal seeks a change of use for 38 North Harbour Street, Ayr, from a restaurant (Class 3) to a dance studio (Class 11).
The proposal states: “The studio will offer structured dance classes for children, adults, and community groups.
“Minor internal modifications include installing mirrored walls and soundproofing. The proposal will revitalise a vacant unit, providing a valuable community facility while ensuring minimal disruption to residents.”
While the building does not have designated parking spaces, the applicant believes this will “not be an issue,” as the nature of operations means parking demand is “minimal.”
Ms Muir said in correspondence: “Most parents and guardians follow a drop-off and pick-up system, meaning they do not require parking spaces for extended periods.
“This ensures a steady flow of traffic rather than prolonged occupancy of on-street parking.
“Additionally, there is ample on-street parking nearby for those who may need to briefly stop, such as parents of younger children.
“Further benefits of this setup include:
• Reduced congestion – With a quick and efficient drop-off system, there will be no strain on local parking resources.
• Encouragement of sustainable travel – Many of our students will arrive on foot, by bicycle, or via public transport, further minimizing parking demand.
• Evening and weekend availability – As classes are mainly held outside of standard business hours, on-street parking is more accessible when needed.”
Ms Muir added: “We are confident that these arrangements will ensure smooth and efficient access for students and parents without impacting the surrounding area.”
The proposals are listed as ‘pending consideration’ on South Ayrshire Council’s online planning portal and a decision on them is expected in May.
