An abuse survivor who filmed her violent ex battering her on a sofa has been bombarded with a spate of sickening messages by supporters of the thug.
Elizabeth Shanks, 36, endured a three-year campaign of abuse at the hands of brute Christopher Forrest. Footage of the 43-year-old’s attacks – which helped to secure his conviction – were captured on a home camera used for dog-watching.
The shocking clips also showed Forrest slamming Elizabeth against a wall and throwing her to the ground.
Forrest was sentenced to 27 months in prison in August 2022, but Elizabeth – who is now pregnant by a new partner – told the Record how her nightmare has continued as people connected to ex relentlessly plague her with disturbing messages and relentless trolling online.
She said: “The harassment started immediately after Christopher was jailed and the most recent threats were posted on social media just days ago.
“I’ve had people who blame me saying I should be “put down” or “drowned” or “run into the Clyde”. I’m barely sleeping and I’m worried that people might come to my house.”
On one occasion, Elizabeth was sent a twisted video of Chris’s mum, Lesley Forrest, beating a piece of meat with a mallet while making cruel references to her son’s victim.
In the clip, a man filming asks: “What are you doing?” Lesley replies: “Thinking of Lizzie Skank and her face.”
The man adds: “You could do some damage to her”, before Lesley responds: “Aye, I could.”
She then states: ‘Oh aye, I could.’

Abuse victim who filmed ex battering her on couch receives sick violent threats
Threatening social media and text messages seen by the Record show the barrage of abuse Elizabeth has received.
In one chain, someone writes: “You deserve someone who’ll beat you like the little b**** you are.”
Another account responds: “I already said to him, when he kills her, I will be a witness for him.”
A different message reads: “Liz, you silly wee girl. Hope your care is safe in a garage.” The post is followed by fire emojis.
Another reads: “You need help lady. You have serious issues. Hope the fire brigade has your back now.”
Further messages spew bile at Elizabeth for what she has “put Chris through”.
Elizabeth said her family, neighbours and workplace have also been targeted by associates of Chris, determined to blacken her name.
She continued: “They made false complaints about me in letters to my employer. But they didn’t stop there.
“They posted letters to all my neighbours, claiming that I was mentally unwell. Even my parents’ neighbours were sent letters.”
Elizabeth currently has a non-harassment order in place against Forrest, but claims police have been able to help her with the abusive online messages, despite her living in constant fear.
She said: “The police told me they can’t do anything because they technically, no one is committing a crime.
“At one point I was calling the police at least once a week, but I feel like they thought was just ‘tit for tat’.
“They advised me to apply for an interdict, but my solicitor said it would cost around £7,000. I can’t afford that, especially now that I’m pregnant.
“I have CCTV in place at my home, but I need more protection. I feel helpless and terrified.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Between 2022 and 2023, we received reports from a member of the public relating to online communications.
“The information provided is currently being reviewed.”
