Horror as teen boy has ‘throat slashed’ in fatal street attack with one arrested

A man and woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on police bail.

A man has been charged with murder after a teen boy had his “throat slashed” in a horror street attack. Alfie Franco, 20, will appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on April 5 charged with the murder of the 16-year-old in Huddersfield, and an offence of possessing a knife in a public place.

A probe remains ongoing into the stabbing which took place at about 2.45pm on Ramsden Street in Huddersfield on Thursday, reports the Mirror. The victim received a single wound to the neck and died later in hospital from his injury. Franco was charged overnight and detained custody ahead of this morning’s appearance.

A man and woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on police bail. Enquires into the incident remain ongoing by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

Yesterday, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck said: “This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life as a result of a knife injury.

We have a team of dedicated detectives who are at the scene and investigating this fatal attack.

“Our initial investigations do indicate it was an isolated incident, and local neighbourhood officers are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area.

“I want to thank witnesses who have come forward so far and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to help our enquiry to please come forward.”

West Yorkshire Police said in an earlier statement: “Police in Kirklees have launched a murder investigation after a teenager died following an incident in Huddersfield yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Ramsden Street in the town centre at around 2:45pm yesterday (3 April) following reports a male had been stabbed.

“Officers attended the scene and the 16-year-old male was taken to hospital to be treated for a serious injury to his neck. He sadly later died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

“A scene remains in place around New Street and Ramsden Street as officers establish exactly what took place. “
