Hoops fan Snoop Dogg says he wants to help kick off the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow if the opening ceremony is held at Celtic park. The rap legend famously carried the Olympic torch in the final leg of its journey to the Stade de France in Paris last year.

And The Drop It Like It’s Hot star, 53, wants to repeat the accolade with the King’s baton next summer if the opening bash returns to Parkhead where it was held in 2014. Snoop said: “I know people are going to say I am a little biased, but yeah any opening ceremony should be at Celtic Park.

“I might be a Celtic fan but I think most people, Celtic fans or not, recognise it has one of the greatest stadiums in the world. To have the opening ceremony at Celtic Park would be perfect and maybe I’ll even get a chance to perform there.

“For real, I would like to carry the commonwealth baton. I don’t need an excuse to visit Glasgow – but to open the games at Celtic Park would be a dream.”

The 17-time Grammy nominated artist told the Sunday Mail that to open the games at Celtic Park would be his ultimate dream.

The 11 day event, which is to take place in July and August, is expected to be held across various Scottish venues including Scotstoun Stadium, Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, the SEC Centre and The Hydro.

Snoop, told last year how he wanted to invest in Celtic FC after being inspired by Hollywood pal Ryan Reynolds, who bought Welsh club Wrexham.

He wore the strip in 2023 and was greeted by a bagpiper playing the song Still D.R.E. when he touched down in Glasgow for the gig at the OVO Hydro.

Spending more time in Scotland would also give him a chance to catch up with pal and fellow Celtic fan Sir Rod Stewart who he praised as his favourite Scots artist.

Snoop added: “I got so much respect for Rod, like me Vegas is his town.

“He hasn’t let age slow him down and is still selling out Vegas shows.

“Then of course he is Celtic fan as well – so I got to go with Rod.”
